County Herald August 27, 1896 A Bad Runaway
Martin Conrad, who lives four miles south of Ava, was found in a very
critical condition last Sunday, by the side of the road betwen his place and
Ava. His team had ran away, throwing him out of the wagon, thereby leaving him
by the side of the road in an unconscious condition. One of the horses which
Mr. Conrad was driving is "balky", and it is supposed that he refused
to pull up the hill, without the use of the "pursuader". The horses
then became so excited and frightened that they ran like a flash, breaking the
wagon and harness all to pieces. When Mr. Conrad was found, the track, near the
road side inicated that he had been dragged under the wagon for quite a
distance. His head and face was covered with blood, oozing from the large cuts
and bruises he had received. It is very doubtful as to his recovering. Later
----He died last night.

between Mary Almira and Samuel Snyder. This seems to be proved by this excerpt
from letter written by Mary Almira in July 1927 to her granddaughter Virga
Coombs before Virga's marriage. Punctuation has been added as Mary didn't have
any punctuation in her letter.

Snyder Passes Away.
Mrs. Mary A. Snyder, wife of S. N. Snyder , of
three miles north-west of town, died at her home last Saturday night, July
14th, following an illness of several weeks from dropsy of the heart.
Burial took place at the Staggs cemetery
Sunday afternoon, funeral services being conducted by Rev. At. T. Mays, pastor
of the M. E. Church, So., of this place.
Mrs Snyder was nearly 66 years of age. She ws
born in Corydon, Indiana, where she was married. After several years residence
in that state the family moved to Oklahoma, where they resided until four years
ago when they moved to this vicinity. She was a devout member of the Methodist
church. She was a good woman and was beloved by her scores of friends and
neighbors.
Besides her husband, deceased is survived by
three sons and three daughters, who are: W. H. Snyder, Okemah, Oklah.: W. J. Snyder,
Depew, Okla.: Davild L. Snyder, Herman, Mo.; Mrs Maude E. Combs, Jefferson,
Okla.: Mrs Pearl Denney, Parsons, Kans.: and Mrs Zelda Mitchell, Piggott, Ark.

Coombs Dies at 102: Rites Pending
Long time Perryan, Mauce Coombs, 102, died at
10:45pm Tuesday at Green Valley Nursing center.
Funeral arrangements were pending Wednesday at
Parker-Brown Funeral home.
Mrs. Coombs was the daughter of Samuel and
Almera Snyder wan was born in Harrison County, Indiana, on June 4, 1882. She
moved with her family to Lincoln county, Oklahoma in 1904. She and Bert Coombs
were married July 9, 1906, at Chandler.
The Coombs' moved to Grant county in 1917 and
to Perry in 1953. She was a member of the First Christian church, the Rebekah
lodge and the Hunter extension homemakers.
Among survivors are three dayghters, Virga Jones, Tulsa; Mrs J. C. [Dorothy]
Perryman, Sunnyside, Wash.: and Mildred Martin, Perry; two sons, Paul Coombs,
Seattle, Wash.; and Carl J. Coombs, Las Vegas, Nevada; eight grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two
sisters and six brothers.
Funeral
services were held February 8, 1985 at the First Christian Church at 2:00pm,
officiated by Rev. M. R. Work. She was buried t Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry,
Oklahoma.
